Writing Instructions to explain how to do something

In Room 7 we have been writing instructions to explain how to do something. We wrote instructions about
- How to line up in Room 7
- How to log onto Mathlectis
- How to issue a book from the library
- How to get home from school safely

When writing our instructions we had to use
- a title
- subheading
- numbers
- verbs (doing words)
- exact instructions

This is Lauren's instructions about how to issue a book from the library

How to issue a book from the library

You will need
- a book
- a book bag

Method
1. Stand up quietly
2. Go and retrieve your book bag and books
3. Line up in front of Room 7's cloak bay facing the court
4. Walk to the library
5. Stop at the library door
6. Get your books out of your book bag
7. Put the books in the return slot
8. Pick a book from the shelve
9. Wait in line at the issuing desk

This is what her work looks like on our writing wall

  1. Because your writing is on the blog Lauren, I can learn how to take a book out without having to come into class or ask you. Do the other Reremoana students known they can look at your blog to help them?

  2. A great piece of 'instruction' writing Lauren. I can see you have looked at the Success Criteria to help you make your instructions easy to follow and very effective.

  3. Lauren, I think this is a great idea! Some of the younger students in the school would really benefit from seeing this. I wonder how you could get them to have a look at your post?
