Dog Do's and Don'ts

Last week we had Paula from animal control come to talk to us about what to do around dogs and what not to do around dogs.

We learnt
- if a dog comes near you stay still and quiet
- if a dog is out on the street leave it alone
- dont annoy or tease dogs
- take good care of your dog

Carl and Mitchell got to go up the front and demonstrate what to do and not to do around dogs.

Swimming

On Friday Week 2, Room 7 had their first swimming lesson. We left school at 9.00 and took a bus to the Manurewa Aquatic Centre. We were split into three groups and had to demonstrate our skills so that we could be assigned to a group for the remainder of the lessons. The students really enjoyed the lesson and are looking forward to the next on this Friday.

Persuasive Writing - Why kids should learn to swim

Today in Room 7 we have been learning to write a quality middle paragraph. Our purpose for our writing is to persuade children to learn to swim. The main idea of our paragraph is swimming gives students more confidence

Students had to follow the Success Criteria and write one paragraph. Here is the SC and three students writing

SC
- include point of view
- include persuasive point
- write at least 4 sentences about the main idea
- use at least 2 emotive words

Kids should learn to swim so they can become more confident in the water. They should be confident because there is a lot of water in New Zealand. If they are not confident they will never go into the water and have a marvellous time. They would only be sun bathing on the beach and watching people in the water having an awesome time.  Kids, swimming is an awesome skill so learn to swim!

Kids should learn how to swim. Swimming is a terrific sport that will help kids confidence in the water, plus if you go fishing you will feel uncomfortable being surrounded by water. So you should learn how to swim so you can have great fun in the water.
Bradley
One reason why kids should learn to swim is because it gives your kids more confidence in the water. If you did not have any confidence you would not go in the water at the beach. Also if you are sunbathing and you see people in the water having fun you wont have any fun in the water if you are not confident. Also if you fell off a boat, and you were confident, you will know know how to swim and swim back to the boat.

Science Fun Day

On Tuesday Reremoana School had a Science fun day as part of the exposure for this terms Inquiry - Science Fair

Room 7's day stated off together in Room 7. We completed an experience to see if we could make an egg float. We added salt to water. After adding lots of salt we were able to make an egg float. The experiment taught us about buoyancy and that things are more buoyant and float better in salt water

After morning tea Room 7 split up and took part in three exciting experiments. The experiments students liked the most were quick sand, colour confusion, boo bubbles and lava lamps.

Finally, after lunch we listened to four people that work in the science field. They told us about what they do for their job and how you could get a job in the science field.

The day was great. We really enjoyed it and can't wait to do more experiments.
